SALTCITY THRILLER: TY WILLIAMS STEALS OPENING NIGHT WIN IN DRAMATIC FASHION

5/8/2026 – Hutchinson, Kansas (www.urssracing.com) - The United Rebel Sprint Series delivered a thriller Friday night as 23 sprint cars signed in for an action-packed showdown at the Half-Mile of SaltCity Racing.

From the drop of the green flag, the battle at the front quickly became one fans won’t soon forget.

After earning quick time honors in Hoosier Racing Tire Qualifying with a lap of 19.586 seconds, Ty Williams backed it up when it counted most, charging from fourth starting position to score the 20-lap Eby Trailers & Truck Bodies A-Feature victory aboard the No. 911 machine.

The race was anything but easy for Williams, however, as Kelby Fetters put together one of the strongest runs of the night in the No. 88K. The two drivers exchanged multiple slide jobs and crossover moves in a breathtaking duel for the lead as lap traffic became a major factor around the fast half-mile.

The first intense battle saw Williams close rapidly on Fetters while navigating heavy traffic. Later in the race, the pair renewed the fight with Fetters throwing a massive charge into turns three and four to momentarily reclaim momentum before Williams answered back with the winning move through turns one and two to seal the deal.

Early in the feature, the red flag flew on lap six after Brayton Dewell’s No. 112 machine flipped over the turn two SAFER barrier and exited the racing surface. Dewell was able to climb from the car.

Taylor Velasquez continued a strong night with a runner-up finish after winning Heat Race No. 1, while Tyler Knight completed the podium in third. Jeremy Campbell crossed the stripe fourth with Conner Thomas charging from 14th to fifth.

Reigning series champion Jordan Knight finished sixth ahead of Steven Richardson, Ace Moore, Brian Herbert, and Jack Hall completing the top ten.

Heat race victories earlier in the evening went to Taylor Velasquez, Tyler Knight, and Steven Richardson.

A total of 23 entries signed in for competition as the United Rebel Sprint Series officially opened another exciting chapter of regional sprint car racing.
