URSS Championship Chase Begins Saturday at SaltCity Racing in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. 4/8/2026 (www.urssracing.com) — The championship chase officially begins this Friday night as the United Rebel Sprint Series heads to Hutchinson Fairgrounds Raceway for the opening points night of the 2026 season.

Following an exciting season opener at Dodge City Raceway Park, teams now shift their focus to the historic Half-Mile of SaltCity Racing, where early season momentum and valuable championship points will be on the line.

Reigning series champion Jordan Knight returns to competition Friday night looking to begin his title defense with a strong run on the famed half-mile.

Knight enters the season once again as one of the favorites in the championship battle after a consistent and impressive 2025 campaign.

Several drivers enter the weekend with strong histories at Hutchinson. Ty Williams returns to the famed half-mile as one of the most successful recent competitors at SaltCity Racing, carrying four career URSS wins at the facility into Friday night’s event.

Another major storyline entering the weekend centers around Brian Herbert, who delivered one of the emotional moments of the 2025 season when he snapped a winless streak dating back to 2016 by winning the opening night of the SaltCity 100 last season.

Fans will also get their first look at this year’s Rookie of the Year contenders, as a talented freshman class is expected to battle throughout the season. Conner Thomas, Brayton Dewell, Jack Hall, T.J. Kleymann, Ace Moore, Zak Moore and Carter Granzella are all expected to contend for rookie honors while competing against some of the top sprint car talent in the region.

With the championship battle officially underway, every lap and every position will matter as drivers begin the journey toward the 2026 URSS title. The fast and demanding half-mile has historically produced some of the most thrilling sprint car racing in the region, often rewarding patience, momentum, and smart race management.

Fans can expect a stacked field of sprint cars from across Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Nebraska as both veteran drivers and rising young talent look to establish themselves early in the championship standings.

This weekends program is expected to include qualifying competition, heat races, and a feature event under the lights at the Kansas State Fairgrounds facility. The wide racing surface at Hutchinson often creates multiple grooves and intense side-by-side action that has made the track a fan favorite for decades.

As the United Rebel Sprint Series presented by M.H. Eby Truck Bodies and Trailers championship campaign officially gets underway, all eyes now turn toward Hutchinson for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest early season events on the 2026 schedule.
